Saffron Building Society has launched two limited-edition fixed-rate savings bonds for existing members, including a one-year account paying 4.77% AER.
The One Year Fixed Rate Members’ Month Bond pays 4.77% Gross p.a./AER, while its One Year Fixed Rate Mini Members’ Month Bond for children aged 17 and under pays 4.50% Gross p.a./AER. Both rates are fixed for 12 months and became effective on 1 September 2026. Both accounts accept a single deposit of between £500 and £5,000, with no additional deposits or withdrawals permitted during the fixed term.
The products have been introduced as part of Saffron’s annual Members’ Month, which is now in its fourth year and is designed to provide additional benefits and rewards to long-standing members.
To qualify for the adult bond, customers must have held a Saffron savings or mortgage account for the previous 12 consecutive months, or have been a signatory, Power of Attorney or Court of Protection with Saffron for at least 12 months. Account holders must also be aged 16 or over and UK residents.
For the Mini Members’ Month Bond, the beneficiary must be aged 17 or under and resident in the UK, while either the beneficiary or signatory must meet the existing membership requirement. Money deposited into the account belongs to the child.
Nathan Huxham, Savings Marketing Manager at Saffron Building Society, said: “Members’ Month is ultimately about recognising the people who choose to save or borrow with Saffron, and we wanted the products at the heart of this year’s activity to offer members something tangible.
“Against a backdrop where savers continue to look closely at where they can make their money work hardest, these limited-edition bonds give existing members the opportunity to lock in a competitive return for the next 12 months.
“We also wanted younger savers to be part of Members’ Month. Building a savings habit early can make a real difference over time, so having a dedicated product for children means families can use the month as an opportunity to think about both their own savings and the money they are putting aside for the next generation.”
Wider Members’ Month benefits
Alongside the two bonds, Saffron is running a wider programme of member benefits and events throughout September.
Members opening an eligible One Year Members’ Month Bond between 1 and 30 September will automatically be entered into a draw for one of 200 prizes, each consisting of two adult admission tickets to an eligible English Heritage site. The Mini Members’ Month Bond is excluded from the draw.
Eligible Saffron members can also claim 25% off a new English Heritage annual membership during September.
Other Members’ Month activity includes behind-the-scenes tours of Audley End House and Gardens, a Mini-Members’ Open Day in Saffron Walden, member tea parties across Saffron’s branch network and a free online English Heritage event exploring how historic locations have been transformed for film and television.
