As temperatures soar across the UK this week, new research from online casino experts Slotozilla reveals that more than six in ten Brits (63%) are already plotting a cheeky ‘sick day’ to soak up the sunshine – with Thursdayemerging as the top day to pull one.
The snap online poll of 2,000 Brits, conducted on Friday 9 May, shows just how tempting a bit of summer sun can be. With the mercury set to hit 27°C, many workers are trading spreadsheets for sun loungers.
Key Findings:
- 63% of Brits admit they’re considering a sick day this week to enjoy the weather
- Thursdays are the most popular choice for a tactical day off
- 1 in 4 say they’ve already booked annual leave under “vague excuses”
- 42% say they feel “zero guilt” about skiving off in the sunshine
A spokesperson for Slotozilla said:
“With the British summer so short-lived, it’s no surprise people are looking for ways to make the most of the heatwave. Whether it’s a beach trip, BBQ, or just working on their tan, the nation’s clearly got sun on the brain this week – and HR departments should probably brace themselves.”
This comes as Google searches for ‘sick day excuses’ and ‘can sunburn count as sick leave?’ saw a spike over the weekend, suggesting workers are already prepping their get-out-of-work strategies.
While employers might not be thrilled, Brits are clearly embracing the sunshine while it lasts – one “cough cough” at a time.
