As the UK enjoys an early burst of summer sunshine, a new poll from USDT Casino reveals that a third of Brits (34%) have already slipped into summer mode, with many either pulling a sickie, logging on from a beer garden, or enjoying an early afternoon drink.
The online survey of 2,000 adults found:
- 12% admitted calling in sick today to enjoy the weather
- 14% said they worked remotely, from a pub garden, rooftop bar or outdoor café
- 8% confessed to having a drink before 3pm
With more workers swapping Zoom calls for zesty pints, USDT Casino also asked the burning question:
Should we be allowed to work from beer gardens?
The nation seems divided:
- 49% say yes, working from a beer garden is no different to working from a coffee shop
- 36% think it's unprofessional
- 15% said they’ve done it but wouldn’t admit it to their manager
James Fletcher, Head of HR at USDT Casino, says:
“We’ve entered the season where productivity and pub culture go head-to-head. At USDT Casino, we believe in flexibility, but it has to be balanced with accountability. If someone can do their job well from a beer garden, why not? The key is trust, not location.”
“The UK has limited good weather days, so we get the temptation. But faking a sick day is still a red flag. We’d rather people be honest and take a day’s leave than risk burning bridges over a sunny pint.”
The poll also found:
- 22% say their productivity drops in hot weather
- 36% think employers should introduce summer hours or half-days when the weather hits 25°C
- 1 in 5 have faked “Wi-Fi issues” to sign off early during previous heatwaves
